GENERACIONES (2021)
This piece consists of a montage of superimposed images or video collage with extradiegetic sound. Old black and white photographs are colored with a layer composed of bursts of current digital photographs taken with a cell phone.
The piece at a first level makes a fairly basic comparison between several family generations. A static black and white image where we see Grandmother, Grandfather, uncles and Mother is in turn colored with everyday photos of the artist's life as a Mother. Selfies with her children, the paintings her children give her, domestic life. The maternity of yesteryear and the maternity of today are practically the same.
On a second level, the piece makes a dialogue between two formats, two styles and two different media of photography. The older, analog, very neat, clean, practically perfect. Gala clothes elegantly adorn each frame, each frame, almost like a painting. In contrast, we see a whirlwind of digital images with much repetition and little composition. A mass of digital garbage that practically only knows how to live in the cell phone, in the computer or in the hard disk. Generations of people and technologies that will become part of the family memory as files in the cloud.
