PLANETS OF SCRAPS, 2025
Series of 3 textiles made with cotton fibres, discarded fabric scraps and PET bottle threads
Planets of Scraps is a textile series and multimedia installation where the tactile and the digital meet. At its core, three woven pieces, crafted from recycled cotton fibres, discarded fabric scraps, and threads made from PET bottled— evoke planetary surfaces and celestial formations, merging handwoven craftsmanship with a glitch-like digital aesthetic.
The artist began working with fibres after the pandemic, driven by a desire for a more physical and tangible connection with her practice, which until then had been predominantly digital. The inherent imperfection of textiles and the transformation of discarded materials became central to her creative process. Through a repetitive, meditative approach, she found a way to navigate the stress and anxiety brought on by the global rise of far-right political forces, alongside the tensions of her simultaneous roles as mother, artist, and educator.
With their calculated “errors” and woven planets, the tapestries move beyond their status as art objects to become reflections on the struggles of everyday life. The series invites viewers to consider the interplay of fragility and resilience within processes of transformation, and to imagine the possibility of building more conscious, sustainable futures together.
